Music making without health-problems
How to prevent or to heal
Dispokinesis short.
- With disposition is meant the free form in which a performing artist can express himself. This form can be lost by several causes as: incomplete motor-development; kinetic-motoric diseases: disordered posture; artificially skilled instrumental technique; unripe mental development for the musical profession; overuse-effects from too ambitious enthusiasm and so on.
- The Dispokinesis, a term derived from the on the continent common word ‘Disposition’, is a scientifically based procedure to give students and performing artists - which get stuck with motorically causes - a Re-educational Processing (REP- re-education of posture and motor capacity). Insiders in the world of the European Conservatories are very well informed about the large number of students which have physical and mental problems in a large scale of diversification; pain, inhibitions, anxiety, discoordinational problems a.s.o.. In the beginning, most of these problems are not medically sheltered. The symptoms are vague and not to be measured. When examining these forms of inhibition, there appear to be several causes. An important cause, of what in Europe has been called ‘Indisposition’, is a lack of sensory-motor development during youth and puberty. Another cause is the insufficient mental preparation to be a performing artist. A third cause can be the lack of leading principles in pedagogical methods concerning developing instrumental techniques in sense of a motor capacity. Principally, there is a
- physical –(in medicine)- mostly collect in the definition " Repetitive Strain Injury" - what indicates on a lack of knowledge of the complexity of the instrumental technique for diagnosing and searching for deeper causes - and
- a psychic problem.
- So, to get stuck on a conservatory with incapability’s, dysfunction’s, not traceable pain during or after playing, followed by more or less mental depression is not always a lack of talent, but can be an unknown Indisposition, inhibiting that what the student really wants to do. Or even, when a performing artist looses his disposition to play, he is indisposed to perform the musical ideas he has. On one side the performing artist is hindered by pain e.g., on the other side by unbelief in the own creative potential. What the performing artist needs in that case, is a knowledge about his disposition and how to get it back.
- Van de Klashorst is globally one of the most experienced and successful professionals in treating musicians with professional diseases. He developed the S.C. exercises of the "Originals in posture and movement" by which the musician its original and natural motor capacity can reinstall or develop further by awareness. The musician learns to observe his skilled artificial motor patterns and to reset them by the original form in connection with his personality. Till today 138 Musicians of all instruments absolved the special 2-year Course "Dispokinesis". In the Dispokinesis musicians help musicians to find back their individual Disposition. Under the pressure of failing learning methods many young coming musician suppress its earliest kinaesthetic experiences and becomes artificially skilled motor patterns. It is clear that motor development has much to do with experiencing, thinking, proposing, imagining, consensus building and creative being.
